This is a lovely French soup tureen produced by Sarreguemines Digoin around the 1900s period. It is a tureen or a large serving bowl with a foot, without a lid, made of ironstone, or terre de fer. They make great visual pieces in a farmhouse or cottage.
Clearly it could be used for many things, serving pasta, serving fruit salad, a fruit bowl or just as a decoration piece.
It is in good condition for its age but there are marks of previous use. There is crazing on the surface and some little tea stain marks on the rim. There is a mark on the side which seems to be present from fabrication, it isn't a crack. It is without cracks. Please see all the photos carefully.
Width, handle to handle: approx 28.5cm/11.2 inches
Diameter of bowl rim: 21cm/8.7 inches
Height: 17cm/6.7 inches
