Antique French wall-mounted matchbox holder (boîte à allumettes), a classic household item dating back to the Art Nouveau period (circa 1890–1910). It would have been mounted on the wall beside the stove or the fire for practical use.
There is a section on the front where the match would be struck for lighting, in the days before safety matches existed.
It has images of phoenix on the lid and the sides, the colours are still quite bright for the age of the item. NOTE: colours on monitors can differ.
It has a nice patina of a well worn household item. There is a little deformity of the metal around one of the hanging holes.
