Antique French Art Deco 1930s Octave Larrieu Pierrot ceramic bookends. Sleeping Pierrot sitting with a book in hand. These are unglazed ceramic with a crackle finish. They have slight timeworn colour and marks fitting for their age. Unglazed they have a matt feel and appearance.

Born in 1881 in Argentina, a young Octave Larrieu arrived in Paris. He became a sculptor and ceramist trained at the national Sèvres factory. He taught drawing and socialised with famous artists like Auguste Rodin. In 1907 he exhibited at the Salon des artistes, a Parisian event organised by artists. For health reasons, in 1919 he moved to the Pyrénées where it opened his own ceramic workshop. He fought in the Great War and being a remarkable sculptor, he was asked to create numerous monuments and statues in the region.
Octave Larrieu died in 1965.
The LARRIEU signature is one of the emblematic designers from the Art Deco period in the Great South-West of France.

One has a tiny chip to the inside back. Please study all photos for further description.
