Antique French pyrogène, lighter, in a classic design of white glaze with blue trim and grey lettering and a tapered ridged section around the pot for lighting matches and a hole in the top for storing matches. This one was created by Longwy with their characteristic enamel flowers with a relief finish.
From a time when smoking in cafes and bars and bistros was the norm, these were placed on tables and the bar at the disposal of the clientele. They were produced for advertising and came printed with many of the various French liqueurs and alcohols served in the bar. This one was most likely produced for private use or for use in a more discerning restaurant or bar. A great piece of history.
Please note modern safety matches won’t light on this surface.
This match holder/lighter is in good condition and hasn't any cracks or chips. Marked on the underside with something illegible. There is grazing on the inside but this is as a product of the fabrication process.
