This is a lovely French soup tureen produced in the 19th century by 'au Planter de Caiffa' in a typical decorative style of this period.

The bowl has an off-white cream colour with a beautiful blue floral transferware and is made of ironstone, or terre de fer. They make great visual pieces in a farmhouse or cottage.

It is in good condition for its age but there are marks of previous use. There is crazing on the surface and some little tea stain marks on the rim. There is a knock on the lid, see photos for outside and inside. Please see all the photos carefully.

The company Au Planteur de Caïffa was founded in 1890 by Michel Cahen and his wife. Initially a simple coffee roaster selling a wide range of coffees, Michel Cahen transformed his shop into a grocery store. He opened two more stores, then many more in the provinces. He remained the coffee specialist.
