A rare antique from France, a rustic, timeworn pair of mid to late 19th century bistro café coffee cups known as Brulot. It made of very thick and heavy white porcelain, good for anyone who likes their coffee to remain hot. It has smooth sides and the base is very thick.
Plain white with green and pink bands around the rim, in various stages of wear.
There are marks from previous use and fabrication process, especially around the rim. Please look at photos carefully for further description.
The interesting fact about brulot cups is when turned upside down there is a hollow in the underside. This was used for a tot of alcohol to be poured into so that when the coffee was finished the drinker could follow it along with a whisky, rum, or most likely a French 'eau de vie'.
Not recommended for the dishwasher.
Height: 8.5cm
Diameter at rim: 7cm
Each cup weighs around 300g each.
