Antique French small hand held insect powder bellows (soufflet à insecticide/soufflet poudrier) branded "La Vigilante" made by Maison Baillet, located at 35 Rue des Deux-Ponts, Paris. Used in the late 19th century to puff out insecticidal powder to control household and garden pests like bugs, fleas, lice, and cockroaches.
Constructed from wood and folded leather with a brass nozzle tip for directing the powder, the is a metal plate on the back to slide for inserting the necessary powder.
It is still functional and has good bellow movement.
